How does integration of refugees on the German labour market look like? Mariana Pacheco from Portugal will present parts of her case study she figured out in the course of her Master’s thesis “Refugees and the Labour Market: a German Study Case”. Her main object is to find out how refugees are inserted in the German labour market. For this purpose, she is conducting interviews with refugees who are or have been employed in Germany. In this way, she gains insights about the quality of their jobs, the conditions surrounding their insertion in the labour market and personal experiences. In our session, Mariana will give us an introduction on the theoretical background as well as on her personal impressions of the situation in Germany. She will be pleased to open a discussion on further questions.

Mariana is still looking for refugees with any kind of professional experience in Germany (internship, apprenticeship, part-time, full-time, …) as an interview partner. We would like to encourage you to attend our seminar to get to know her and consider to share your personal experience with her. She will invite you to participate in her research. However, our session will take place as usual and the interviews you may decide to participate on will not happen during the session. So even if you do not want to be interviewed or have not had any employment in Germany, you are cordially invited to join!

The seminar takes place within academic experience Worldwide e.V.’s regular seminar series. Each seminar is designed as an open space inviting students and refugees to establish an active exchange. In the seminars, postcolonial studies are laying the basis for discussion, media is being analysed as well as learnings about the conflicts and problems in the countries of origin of our international participants are covered. All seminars are open to the public, free of charge for all participants and take place on a regular basis in a two-week rhythm in Frankfurt. Your ideas, proposals, suggestions or contributions on potential topics are welcome at any time. Please contact frankfurt@aeworldwide.de.
